Mind Games Suggested Discussion Questions:

1)        Which characters do you believe the boy and the girl on the cover depict?  What leads you to this
conclusion?

2)        Which character do you identify with the most?  Why?  Which character would you most want to be friends
with?

3)        Do you believe that the Mad Scientists won the state science fair in the end?  Why or why not?

4)        Do you believe that the Mad Scientists proved the existence of clairvoyance?  Give evidence from the text to
support your answer.

5)        If you could join any “club” at your school, what activity would you choose to explore and why?

6)        Why do you think teachers assign group work?    Do you prefer working by yourself or with others?  If you
have difficulty getting along with another member of the group, how do you handle the situation?

7)        If you had unlimited resources and could pick any scientific topic to research for an experiment/project,
what would your research question be?  Develop your hypothesis and explain how would you go about designing
an experiment to prove it.

8)        If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?  Explain your answer.

9)        Do you believe in ESP?  What experiences have led you to your conclusion?

10)        Have you ever had to participate in something that you weren’t looking forward to and then, in the end,
been glad that you were forced to do the activity?  Describe your experience and what changed your mind.

Suggested activities:
1)        Visit http://owens4.com/funstuff/esptest.html and take the Zener card test (or make and use your own
cards).  Compare the results as a class.  Were any statistically significant results achieved?

2)        Design and describe your own method for scientifically testing the existence of ESP.
